C.I.P All Blacks

In today's C.I.P we heard a message from Anton player of All Blacks and he gave us some message about our project.

The message of the player for us
Hornby High School students makes us happy because we are so lucky that there's someone has connection from All Blacks. I myself appreciated what Anton did for us by giving a nice message that will encourage to study hard.

Our class made some posters, cards and videos to the players of All Blacks. We also received a nice message from one of the players after he learnt about what we are doing in C.I.P

In today's blog I'm going to share what I did in C.I.P I finished posting my  message to All Blacks.

Hurumanu P.E

In today's blog post we did some fitness in gym and what we did is running and laps and every run we need to heard the number before we stop. Our teacher in P.E is Miss Birtch and Miss Simpson. And when were finish running we did up and down and the meaning of up and down is you need to run and if you heard 1 whistle you need to run but if you heard 2 whistle you need to lay down but my score is just only 3'7 because it's hard so I give up. But when Monday we did the high jump, sit and reach, sit up and I really like what we did in Monday in fitness. And when Monday my score:

Name: Shane

Class: Bh

Vertical Jump
    M1:1.9
     M2: 2.2

Sit and Reach: 6

Sit Ups: 24

Grip Test: 4

Beep Test: 3'7

Hurumanu: Introduction

Hurumanu - Science Badges: Introduction

Science Badges:

'Conservation'

  • Climate Science
  • Global Warming
  • Recycling
  • Renewable Energy
  • Fossil Fuels
  • Ecology
  • Our Planet
  • Water
  • Plants
  1. 15 Points are needed to get a badge
  2. A high standard of work.
  • All experiments are written up ( Aim, Materials, Steps, Conclusion)
  • Two photos of your experiment
  • 6 sentences at least for a conclusion

Science will be twice per week.

  • Lesson 1: This will be an Experiment that involves blogging. You will be expected to open a new post, copy Mr Palmer's blog and paste it on your new post.
  • Lesson 2: This will be an Investigation that relates to the topic from Lesson 1. It will be own choice and displayed in a way that you prefer. For example - PowerPoint, Doc, etc

BLOGGING.

All the blogs and science lessons will be displayed on Mr Palmers blog:

Bookmark it!

Expectations:
  • 1 blog must be completed per Hurumanu lesson.
  • A completed blog must have the four headings ( Aim, Method, Findings, Conclusion), correct writing and punctuation under each heading and be published. No post, no points.
  • 2 images of the experiment / investigation on the blog.
Using the Scientific method of investigation:

Aim: What the experiment / investigation is about.
Method: Instructions on how the experiment / investigation is carried out. This includes the equipment.
Findings: What have we learnt or found out from our experiment / investigation. This is called Data, Information or Facts. It is displayed in a chart, table or picture.
Conclusion:

My Hurumanu Science Goals:

1. Be safe and don't run at the lab because you can broke some things.

2. Listen to the teacher to know the next step are because if you are listening you don't need to back and fort to the teacher.

3. Don't do silly staff.

Hururmanu: Water cycle

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

A green box with icons and white text. Text reads: Where is Earth's Water? 96.5 percent is in the oceans; 1.7 percent is in lakes, rivers, streams, and soil; 1.7 percent is in polar ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow; 0.001 percent is in water vapor in Earth's atmosphere

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.
An illustration of the water cycle showing how water travels from rivers and streams to clouds to snow and back again

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change
Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change

Material:

  1. Water
  2.  Bag
  3.  food colouring
  4.  litmus paper
  5. permanent marker
  6. sand

Steps:

  1. Get the bag and put the water inside the bag.
  2. Draw the water cycle in the bag
  3. Get 1x  cup of water
  4. 2 drop of food colouring into the bag
  5. Hang the bag in the window
  6. You can put down the bag

Two Images:

Findings:

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
Yes Yes it doesYes
Amount of Water
 222
Acidity
 131

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Other comments:

1. Bag 1 cycled water
2. Bag 1 had a small amount of water
3. They acidity in the bag 1 was low
4. Bag 2 cycled water
5. Bag has 2 the small bag with amount of water
6. Bag 2 the small that people always use where ever they go
7. Bag 3 it's acidity bag
8. Bag 3 they are some different bag they have large and small
9. Bag 3 the acidity was low

Conclusion:

Draw a labelled diagram of the Water Cycle

Water cycle words:
  1. Precipitation
  2. Hurricanes
  3. Acid rain
  4. Evaporation
  5. Carbon Dioxide
  6. Water
  7. Defirestation
  8. Water vapour
  9. Transpiration
  10. Flooding

TODAY YOU WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS THAT CLIMATE CHANGE HAS ON THE WATER CYCLE.

  1. Using your SOLO hexagons poster write a paragraph about the different aspects of climate change.
  2. Write about the following Climate Change concepts:
You can do these by powerpoint, embedding a movie , on your blog, on a doc or any other form of presentation. It is up to you.

ACIDIFICATION: HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

DEFORESTATION: HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?
