Crystals

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals

Definition of solution
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)

Definition of saturated
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)

In groups of three you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.

Borax Crystals

Image result for borax crystals

Ratio; 3 Tablespoons Borax per 1/2 cup water
Materials

1)Cups
2)Stick
3) pipe cleaner
4)Ingredients
5)spoon

Process

Step 1:Get your cups
Step 2:Get your ingredients like borax, sugar, salt, hot water.
Step 3:First put your ingredient and put hot water.
Step 4:Tie your pipe cleaner.
Step 5:Put your pipe cleaner in the cup with hot water.
Step 6:Put your name.

Sugar Crystals

Grow your own Sugar Crystals

Ratio: 1 cup sugar to 1/2 cup water
Materials

1)sugar
2)Cups
3)Water
4)Spoon
5)string

Process

Step 1:Get your ingredients like borax,hot water,sugar,salt.
Step 2:Get your spoon and cups.
Step 3:Tie your pipe cleaner with the string.
Step 4:Put your pipe cleaner in the hot water.
Step 5:Put the your name.
Step 6:Put your crystal in the tray.

Salt Crystals

Image result for how to make salt crystals

Ratio: 4 Tablespoons salt to 1/2 cup water
Materials

1)sugar
2)cups
3)water
4)spoon
5)stick

Process

Step 1:Get your cups and ingredients.
Step 2:Put your ingredients in the cups.
Step 3:Put hot water with the ingredients.
Step 4:Put your pipe cleaner but you need to tie your pipe cleaner in the stick.
Step 5:Mix your ingredient with the pipe cleaner.
Step 6:Put your name in the cup.

Triclinic
Definition:

7triclinic are have 7 side because it's big and it has 15 line.
Monoclinic
Definition:

9monoclinic has 9 side because it's large and big and it's has 14 line.Image result for triclinic image
Orthombic
Definition:

6orthombic has 6 side because orthombic are big and large and it has 11 line every line.
Trigonal
Definition:

10trigonal has 10 side because trigonal are big and it has 25 line.
Hexagonal
Definition:

8hexagonal has 8 side because hexagonal have many line every 19 side.Image result for hexagonal shape
Cubic
Definition:

6Cubic has 6 side because the cubic are little it has 11 line every side.Image result for cubic shape
Tetragonal
Definition:

12tetragonal has 12 side because it's big and the tetragonal has 20 line.Image result for tetragonal shape

Explain how the following crystals are formed?

Type

Salt
salt are little bite hard because salt little bite like a rock.

Sugar
sugar are soft because sugar are like bite look like salt but the sugar are soft than the salt.

Snowflakes
snowflake are soft but it's faster to malt it will malt if you put in the hot place.

Scince Home Chemistry-Learning Stories

In Hurumanu Science term 1 we did alot of experiments. What I liked most is the crystal making.

I learnt how to do the crystal with my group. Because some of it I don’t understand a little bit so my group is helping me in my work. Our group did well because all of us did our part in doing the experiment we need sugar, salt, borax, hot water, cups. This is an amazing activity and I love it. I tried to do it by my own first I got a cup and ingredients and I put hot water on it. I waited for 2 days and I observed it’s not perfect maybe because I put many borax and hot water.

Still I enjoyed the experiment in my class with Charlie and Gerald because they are helping me in my work. We finished our work on time because we tried our best. Having this activity make me happy and smart because I did something awesome by working hard and I finished my blog post. I liked working with my group because it’s so much fun if I work with my group because they are helping me in my work but some of my group is not helping me in my work, so I need to go to the teacher to know my work. Some of my work I finished like the crystal. What I really liked in my Hurumanu science is the crystal making because it’s easy to do.
